This GR was powered by a 1974 294cc Rotax Sno-Pro engine. This engine is somewhat unique. It was 1 of 5, 294s that Rotax built for Bombardier for the 1974 race season. As some may know, that in 1974 the USSA designated only 3 classes for Sno-Pro. They were 340, 440, and 640 classes. A friend of mine found this engine in pieces in the dyno room at the main plant and brought it home to show me. As soon as I saw the crankcase, I immediately knew what it was. All you have to do to recognise one of these engines is look at the color of the crankcase casting. They all had a golden tint to them. It was because the crankcase was made of magnesium. They used magnesium in order to bring down the weight, especially for the 640 triples. The tune pipes were made for me by the "Tune Brothers" at Bombardier. They use to do a little moonlighting on the side on weekends at home. The countershaft, steering, ski-legs, steering rods, leaf spring link plates were also made of aluminium. The engine mount was fairly cut out also. It only lacked the dual ignition system which was hard to come by at the time.
