GILLES VILLENEUVE MAY 29 - 2005 Hope they can be enjoyed by all the vintage racing enthusiasts. This is the same race where the video was taken when Bob Eastman went over the wall. These pictures are from the 1974 Sno Pro race in Alpena, Michigan. All the racing teams were present. The shot of Villeneuve on the Allouette is great. They also had the rear engine twin track sled running in the open class. This is the one we have on the video. Bob Eastman is shown working on the #77 Polaris. This was the race Eastman's sled went over the wall and he suffered a racing career ending injury. The Rupps are lined
up next to the Polaris team as they get ready to do
Note in the picture the Kalamazoo racing van along with the Rupp van. The Kalamazoo racing team had Sammy Sessions racing for them. He was a Michigan based Indy Car driver. He did not do well in this race. I remember the smaller or less funded teams having the vans and the factory teams showing up with one or two 40 ft. full size trailer rigs. The Rupps did well and were very cool looking! The Alloutte team had a cut off school bus and parked out back in turns 3 and 4 for privacy and security reasons, I think. They wanted to keep their secrets away from the other teams! All the other team were parked in the pits next to the spectator parking lot for all to see. Of course there are a couple of Arctic Cat shots. They seemed to have their act together. The one picture shows the liquid cooled sled -- one of the only ones. Chaparrel was also present and we were able to get a shot of the driver talking to a Polaris driver. Not sure who they are. Hope you are able to post these. Thanks, Best Regards, Greg & Ken Karbowski THANKS GREG AND KEN FOR THESE GREAT PICTURES AND INFORMATION! |
