- Here's a picture of the1964 Autoboggan -
Comet built by Polaris I just purchased.
As you know, it was Polaris's first attempt at making a sled with the motor
mounted in the front as J.A. Bombardier was already doing successfully.
As it turned out, this attempt was a failure. It was tested on hard
glacial snow and worked fine. As soon as they tried it in Minnesota
conditions, soft deep snow it would not go. So Polaris attempted
to buy them all back, but obviously they didn't get this one. They
were then made into the rear engine Super Pacer. The Comet almost bankrupted
Polaris. This sled is very rare, only 400 were made and most were
recalled. It has a Kohler 4 stroke 7 H.P. motor This one is an Autoboggan,
sold by H.C. Paul in Manitoba. Regards, Richard Shantz - Ontario
