WHAT IS YOUR SLED WORTH? PAGE 131
I GET EMAILS FROM OWNERS ASKING ME WHAT I THINK THEIR SLED IS WORTH.  THE WORTH OF A SLED DEPENDS ON MANY FACTORS SUCH AS - APPEARANCE - CONDITION - MILEAGE - ACCIDENTED - IS THE MOTOR STUCK - TRACK CONDITION - RARE MODEL - STORED OUTSIDE / INSIDE -  ORIGINAL - HAVING TRANSFER PAPERS AND SO ON.

I CREATED THESE PAGES TO GIVE BUYERS AND SELLERS A LOOK AT SLEDS THAT HAVE RECENTLY SOLD ON EBAY WITH THEIR DESCRIPTION. THIS IS NOT TO BE USED AS AN ACCURATE PRICE LIST OF A SLEDS WORTH BUT AS A GUIDE TO SHOW YOU WHAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SELL OR BUY A SLED FOR ON EBAY.

JUST REMEMBER - SOMETIMES ON EBAY - 2 BIDDERS DRIVE A SLED'S PRICE WAY UP OVER THE TRUE VALUE BECAUSE THEY BOTH WANT IT AND THEN SOMETIMES A SLED CAN SELL ON EBAY FOR A LOT LESS THAN
TRUE VALUE BECAUSE OF THE TIME OF YEAR IT WAS POSTED OR THE WAY THE PERSON POSTED THE AD.

THIS GUIDE IS IN NO WAY INTENDED TO TELL YOU THE WORTH OF A SLED.  AFTER ALL  A SLED IS WORTH ONLY WHAT THE BUYER IS WILLING TO PAY FOR IT. I AM POSTING THIS GUIDE AS A SERVICE AND NOTHING ELSE.
I CANNOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE PRICE YOU BUY OR SELL YOUR SLED AT. THAT IS TOTALLY
YOUR DECISION.  GOOD LUCK.

I DO NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE YEAR POSTED WITH THE SNOWMOBILE.
SOMETIMES - PEOPLE POST THE WRONG YEAR.

A Genuine First Year Snowmobile from John Deere!  This and the other snowmobile (To make up a matched pair) I have up for auction are both in the first serial # build of the first year that John Deere made snowmobiles.  Please see my other auctions to see the 400.

An all original 1972 John Deere 500 in remarkable condition.

1106 original miles
Serial number 5000A003398M is very low, in the first production run.
Original windshield w/ chrome edge!
Original 2 up seat with Backrest-No Rips or tears!
Trailer Hitch
Nice original Snow Flap (Hard to find this good).
440cc CCW Engine w/ single (original) carb.
Electric Start does work but needs a battery
Track is good and suspension looks to be all there.
Has the shocks for the front ski's.
Everything works including the lights & kill switch
No cracks in the hood or old repairs.  It looks to have never been rolled over.

It has scratches here and there.  There is a little surface rust on inside of front bumper (see pics)

There was a fluid spill at one time that has discolored the hood near the gas tank fill.  I did not want to re-paint it, as I wanted to keep it original.
It had sat in storage for some time, so carb was gummed up and stuff.  Fresh off a carb rebuild and new fuel lines this spring-it starts and runs, though I think it needs the carb adjusted, as it backfires on high throttle.   I do not know how how to do it so, if anyone else knows what that could be, let me know.  One friend says it may need the points adjusted?  I was planning to get it to a mechanic this fall, but I am out of time and $.
